Clients & Projects - 4 - Fish population surveying, River Windrush

As part of the environmental study for a proposed link road development, Pisces Conservation were requested to investigate fish density and diversity in three channels of the River Windrush in Oxfordshire.
At 3 sites on the river, systematic electric fishing was used to gather data on all fish species present, and allow a removal trapping method to be used to estimate population density. Condition of the captured fish was also noted to assess the health of fish stocks.
Pisces staff have considerable experience in electric fishing, as well as statistical methods for analysis of survey data. Pisces' own software, specially-developed for working biologists, was used for analysis of the data. Only staff holding current Environment Agency-approved certificates of competence are used in electric fishing.
